Joe Van Nes: A Final Message

Joe Van Nes

I congratulate Bill Keating on his win. This letter is not aimed at him, just the system in general in which we all live. I hope Mr. Keating has the ability to stand up to special interests and keep the people in mind when he is tempted with money and power. I would also like to encourage him to look outside the box in his search for solutions and not be restricted by the status quo. I’m sure I speak for the entire district when I wish him the best of luck.

Moving on…

You know it’s election season when only “noncombat” troops remain in Iraq and “terrorists” start sending their last minute bombs in the mail from Yemen. Just like they assured us before the primaries, our army was leaving Iraq, the media spent the last days of the election talking about explosives which did not explode. Keep the fear alive, but at controllable levels and you can get the “sheeple” to vote for the “lesser of two evils” every time. I wonder what’s going to almost happen right before the next election.

Perry and Keating Call Each Other Liars

The debate was heated at times. An hour and 15 minutes into the debate an exchange between Perry and Keating devolved almost into a shouting match. Perry pulled from one of this jacket pockets a political mailing from the Democratic party saying that he favors cutting Social Security benefits and raising the retirement age, calling those statements “lies” targeted at scaring seniors into voting for Keating.

Joe Van Nes: It's Time We Got Tough On Politicians

[ed_note]We received this message from Joe Van Nes, and independent candidate for Congress in the 10th Congressional District. Cape Cod Online also has an interview with Mr. Nan Nes.[/ed_note]

Joe Van Nes

I am sick of hearing about politicians who are tough on terror, tough on drugs, tough on crime, tough on anything but themselves…. Its time that we got tough on politicians. If we can’t trust the people who lead us then everything else becomes a secondary priority. We have a two party system that caters to itself and rewards politicians who do the wrong thing, while making it harder for honest people to get elected. The big question is how do we get rid of a two party system that everyone, including the people who work for it, acknowledges to be corrupt?

Jeff Perry's Victory Speech for the 10th Congressional Republican Primary

He’s already campaigning for the general election in this speech. His intensity shows exactly why he won the primary and why even in Democratic leaning Massachusetts that Perry comes into the race as the leader.

“The Democrats are going to be playing defense on this one.”

Whether you like Perry or not you have to see this to get a sense of what is coming. Bill Keating, the Democratic nominee, can be a pretty aggressive and passionate campaigner as well. It is going to be a very exciting race in the 10th district.

Democratic Candidate for 10th Congressional District Chases Down and Literally Captures a Purse Snatcher on Sunday in Falmouth

Keating was having breakfast with his wife at the Colony Fare restaurant in Falmouth, when a man overturned a stool, grabbed a woman’s purse and ran out of the restaurant.

A number of diners, including Keating ran after the man. The suspect, Christopher Jones, 29, dropped the purse and continued running, but Keating, 59, and another man continued after him, tackled him and held him until police arrived.

It turns out the purse contained thousands in cash to pay for their daughter’s wedding. The grateful family paid for Keating’s breakfast.

Bill Keating and Robert O'Leary in Tightest Congressional Primary

In just about a week voters will have a chance to vote in more congressional primaries than they have in decades. For the most part these congressional primaries have clear leaders. Only one congressional primary race is right now in what looks like a dead heat, the race between Democrats Bill Keating and Robert O’Leary.

As the primary race draws to a close both candidates are out with new TV ads to highlight key differences between them. O’Leary tells voters that he is the only candidate to support a strict timeline for withdrawl from the war in Afghanistan. Keating says that he is the only candidate who is against raising the retirement age for Social Security.
