Congressman Olver Endorses Rep. Candidate Paul Mark

Congressman John Olver has endorsed Paul Mark, Democratic nominee for state representative. Olver, along with Senator Ben Downing and other members of the Democratic ticket, will host an event for Mark on October 21 at 5:30pm at the Dalton American Legion, at 258 North Street.

“As our State Representative, Paul will work on behalf of our most rural communities to improve the quality of life there and to encourage economic growth in sectors across his district. I believe Paul will work to ensure that residents of the 2nd Berkshire District have a strong representative at the table, as they have had with Representative Guyer,” Olver said.

The 1st Congressional District

There are two worlds of rural Massachusetts politics. At the center, radiating out from Democractic Worcester, are many solidly Republican little towns, places like Athol, Fitchburg and Leominster. These areas voted overwhelmingly for Scott Brown, and have turned sharply ( +15% points ) more Republican in the past two years.

Further to the West, as you enter Franklin and Hampshire counties, is one of the most consistently Democratic areas in the state. This Democratic base is anchored by college towns like Amherst, Northampton and Holyoke and extending to the hippie kingdoms of the Berkshire mountains.
