The Suzanne Bump campaign has been rolling out several press-releases per week with the endorsement’s she’s gathering. I asked them to send us a complete list of her endosements so far. Seeing them all at once gives us a clearer picture of who is lining up behind her, and what her political constituencies are.

We see some interesting patterns emerge. Bump is endorsed by a significant number of suburban progressive legislators. She’s got the endorsement of Massachusett’s most progressive congressman Barney Frank. Her power base is definitely Eastern Massachusetts.
Surprisingly we don’t see some of Massachusetts most progressive legislators on her endorsement list, like Pat Jehlen and Sonia Chang-Diaz. Could it be that Mike Lake is drawing those endorsement? Lake has been involved in progressive politics for years, and was part of Chang-Diaz campaign so he may be owed allegiance by some of those on the far left of Massachusetts political spectrum.
We also don’t see a lot of the arch insiders in the legislature endorsing her. The patronage machine may yet endorse their candidate – Glodis.
Most impressive is that Bump has the endorsement of outgoing auditor DiNucci. More than anyone, he is in a position to know what it takes to be auditor.

What or whom, exactly, will Bump or Glodis have the courage to audit? Their friends in the unions and predominantly Democratic legislature would not remain friends for long if either one held them accountable for wasteful spending. We need some balance at the State House. This applies to Representatives and Senators also, but it is absolutely essential that we don't have a fox guarding the hen house in the State Auditor's position. Kamal Jain and Mary Connaughton are battling for the GOP nomination–either would be a better choice, because neither is in any way indebted to those they would monitor.
She's got plenty of support in western Mass.
Olver, Bosley, Guyer, Rosenberg… Those are just the ones I recognize from living in the Berkshires.
You're absolutely right. There is a solid progressive constituency in the Berkshires that she is drawing from.
Glodis is going to win. He has more support than Bump or Lake, and is ahead organizationally and financially. He has been working his *ss off and will win.
In this year's political climate, these endorsements may actually be somewhat problematic. They convey a “political insider” “business as usual” image that may well turn off voters in an environment where there is a general distrust of state government and a conviction that our tax dollars are not being spent wisely.
How many more Probation Departments lie undetected in our state government? Where is the push for real reform and transparency from the Democrats for a government bureaucracy that even the Boston Globe calls bloated and dysfunctional?
The auditor's office must be independent. It doesn't just audit dollars. It also audits programs for efficiency and effectiveness. Clearly there is much more to be done in that regard. If the auditor is beholden to elected representatives with their pet programs, labor unions and special interests, how independent can we expect them to be?
Both Kamal Jain and Mary Connaughton who are battling for the Republican nomination are political outsiders have vowed to go to Beacon Hill and clean house. I particularly like Jain's idea of total transparency, putting every transaction on line so everyone can see how their tax dollars are being spent.
Mary Z is not the independent. She likes being dubbed the thorniest thorn on the side of the Governor. You cannot like nor embrace that. You have to have no agenda and be the Independent. Guy is the independent.
And Glodis has already stated most likely before Jain of putting spendatures by the state online.
Mary Z is not a political outsider, Brad. She was on the turnpike board and was Joe Malone's lottery director at one point. You remember Joe Malone and the Missing Millions (good band name!), right? A ton of Lottery tickets went missing under Malone, and Mary Z REFUSED an outside audit of the agency…
Like Mr. Ashe says below, Mary promised to be the “thorniest thorn” in the side of Gov. Patrick. The Auditor's office is not a bully pulpit, but rather a position from which the best interest of the taxpayers is constantly monitored and, well, audited! I don't know about Mr. Jain, but Mary has gone out of her to indicate she would use her position to challenge Democrats. That's not what the office is for.
Glodis has a lot of more support in WMASS
Really? Is that why he got such an ass-kicking among WMass delegates at the convention? In my Senate district he lost 68-13.
This is just another of the lies Glodis is telling to make himself sound inevitable, because inevitability is the only reason anyone would vote for him.
Glodis doesn't even know anything about the office he's running for. His good friend Tim Murray has debunked his claims about stimulus spending info not being available online. Which would have only taken a simple google search.
And yes he does. Only candidate who has actualy balanced a budget, and has so very year. Not tied to any administration, so he IS THE INDEPENDENT.
Ok- most city councilors if not all in Spfld. State Reps Sandlin, Ashe, Puppolo, Curran, Wagner, Welch. Sen Candaras and Buoniconti. Register of Deeds Don Ashe and Regustar of Probate Tom Moriarty. Pitsfield Mayor and Registar if Deeds.
The reason Guy got fewer votes at the convention was due to so many sick delegates. I arrived at the Convention Friday afternoon and ended up at St. Vincent's 3 hours later with kidney stones, a State Senator's father passed away Friday and all of his family were delegates and then another one of our delegates was walking into the convention center and had a heart attack. It was a cursed convention!
Many people are just anti-Glodis because he speaks his mind. He is a true independent person. He says what he thinks. I admire that. He voted against gay marriage when he was in the State Senate. I am gay, married to a guy since 2004 and been with him for 11 years. We both support Guy Glodis. I know Guy, he is a friend… he has had a change of heart on some issues. He is a true progressive Democrat. As a former member of Auditor DeNucci's staff I can say… there will be no finer State Auditor than Guy Glodis!
You might want to do a fact check before you keep embarassing your candidate by trying to spread misinformation.
Mayor of Pittsfield: See the above list of Suzanne Bump's endorsements.
Suzanne Bump had to balance a much bigger budget as Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development than Glodis does as Sheriff. This kind of lie, which Glodis himself has been telling personally, is exactly what I'm talking about. It's blatantly false, but the Glodis campaign doesn't care.
Yes, Glodis has plenty of support among the hackocracy that mismanaged Springfield into a ditch, but not so much among the rest of Western Mass. That says a lot.
I meant to hit “reply”, not “like”.
This comment is just Glodis trying to cover up the embarassment of losing. You don't think the other candidates had delegates who were no shows? First of all, unless this State Senator had at least 14 family members who were delegates, your list isn't big enough to account for all of the difference. And definitely not big enough to make up for the overwhelming margin Guy was planning to win by.
Second, the list of Bump delegates in my Senate district who were no-shows for various reasons is bigger than your list. So nice try, but you fail.
You're right, people do dislike Glodis because he speaks his mind. Any rational person would dislike him for that when the things on his mind include things like killing Muslims with bullets covered in pig's blood.
Oh well… she fails on primary day
VOTE GUY!
I do apologize, I thought the mayor was with him, my mistake. However, it is good that he speaks his mind, that's what we need in an auditor! WE NEED AN INDEPENDENT AND GUY IS THAT. and I have no idea to what you just referenced.
You have no idea what I just referenced because Glodis hasn't told you or anyone else the truth about himself. But it's out there: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/5/28/870859/… This “independence” claim he's making is a myth. He tries to make it sound like having worked for the Governor will compromise Bump's integrity. So is his integrity compromised by the fact that several Springfield city councilors have are helping him get elected? Springfield is one of the most mismanaged cities in America; what happens the next time they're under a control board and the Auditor has to take a look at them? By Glodis's own reasoning, he would not be able to audit them in an impartial manner.
You have no idea what I just referemce because Guy has been lying to you.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/5/28/870859/…
This man is insane. And what makes you think he's so independent? He tries to make it sound like Suzanne Bump is not independent because she worked for the Governor. So what happens the next time Springfield goes off a cliff and has to be put under a Fiscal Control Board? The Auditor has to do an audit, and by his own reasoning Guy's integrity will be compromised because of the city councilors helping his campaign.
You are 100% wrong. You could say the same about Boston City Councilors who support her. Guy is going to win… Just accept it…. And btw. She has never balanced a budget. The legislature is the one who approves the budget… Secretaryship do what they want with it. Only Glodis has balanced a budget and has experience. He is the INDEPENDENT.
Sheriff's budget is decided by the legislature as well. We can debate the specifics of what it means to “balance a budget”, but by any standard which allows a conclusion that Glodis has balanced a budget, Bump has too.
Regarding city council endorsements:
1. Boston is not as mismanaged as Springfield. It hasn't been required to have any fiscal control boards lately, so the state has no power to comple an audit of Boston.
2. Yes, you could argue that Boston city councilors' endorsements compromise a candidate's integrity. That's not the point, especially since Glodis has at least one of those (Connolly). The point is that Glodis has no rational basis for arguing he's independent and Bump isn't. In fact, given his history of giving out plum jobs to hacks that supported his campaign, he will be much more dependent on his supporters if he wins than Bump will be on hers.
No county officials, such as Sheriff Glodis have their own budgets. Bo didn't…. And I gave Boston as an example. Other extreme left- wing cities and towns who support bump you could say that about… Glodis is going to win……
No. Take a look at this year's state budget, for example.
http://www.mass.gov/legis/bills/house/186/ht04p…
See the 165th page for the Worcester County Sheriff's Dept line item. You'll note that 99.5% of the funding comes from the general fund, which is the portion of the state budget that pays for almost everything. The other .5% comes from the FMAP Budget Relief Fund. That's federal money.
This has to be set by the Legislature and the Governor the same as a cabinet Secretary's budget.
Not only is Glodis lying to you, he's either kind of stupid for telling lies that are so easily debunked or he thinks you are.
No he's not!!! He has way more experience than Bp or lake, is not an insider who will be the status quo. He is the independent and the right choice for Auditor!!! Go Guy! All the way to November!!!
Apparently denial is the last resort of a Glodis supporters whose claims have been debunked.
I'm sorry what?
Your claims were proven false by the commenter above but you keep kicking and screaming instead of trying to present evidence.
If you really want to go there he was also wrong, assuming he’s right, that bump has balanced a budget. So no I haven’t.
