John Golnik's Campaign Office Destroyed By Fire

Last night at about 11:30pm a fire broke out in a small two story  office complex whose only tenant is the office of Jon Golnik, the leading Republican candidate for the 5th Congressional District held by US Representative Niki Tsongas.

When firefighters arrived, an SUV parked behind the building was on fire as well as part of the building. Golnik’s office was on the other side of the building. Eventually the fire consumed the entire second floor. Golnik’s office was damaged predominantly by water damage.

It is too early to tell if the fire was set intentionally. The suspicious vehicle that was burned behind the building has been impounded and firefighters are investigating.

According to the Herald, Golnik called the fire a “temporary setback” and that the campaign would be back up and running in new offices on Wednesday.

The Globe also has a short article with video from NECN. WCVB has a more detailed report with video.

Update: The Golnik campaign released a video of their cleanup efforts.
