Ron Paul continues to be a true American hero.

MA Republicans further humiliated — again!

I’ve said from day one that Scott Brown’s victory was nothing but a perfect storm… but who ever listens? The RINO-led brain trust at the MAGOP thought they were just going to cruise to statewide and otherwise victory. The MAGOP intended to be carried aloft by a farrow of flying pigs; much to their chagrin.

There will be those who’ll see this commentary for something other than what it is: a reflection on the 2010 Massachusetts elections. But that’s their problem, not mine.

Now that the election is over, I’d like to tell the readers that I ran as a Non-Party candidate in Weymouth for state representative, which might seem an odd identity, but that was one of the three choices available in the Secretary of State’s Handbook for candidates to claim. It signifies that a person is free of the two major political parties.

Republicans were disappointed that they lost all their congressional challenges, and all their races for statewide constitutional offices. Democrats are savoring a “clean sweep” in Massachusetts in the middle of a devastating collapse at the national level.

There are many good post election analysis articles out on the web worth looking at. I don’t have every good article out there – but I’ve got examples of all the major themes going around and who is pushing them.

Democratic Spin: “Republican Failure”

The Boston Globe says Democratic success was due largely to a well organized “get out the vote” effort, principally engineered in Massachusetts’ urban centers and manned by union volunteers:

“Of all the things that went right for Patrick Tuesday, one big one was Menino’s legendary machine. By the end of the day, more Bostonians had voted than in 2006, supplying Patrick with vital support in the state’s most important Democratic stronghold. Help from labor unions, particularly the Service Employees International Union and the building trades, provided critical muscle on the ground. Neighborhood organizers with decades of political experience lent their expertise and personal networks.”

Sean Bielat

Polls are showing that Sean Bielat is surprisingly viable. He’s polling within 10 points of Frank, and leading 51% to 34% among independents. Frank has been in office a long time, and is beloved by progressives but reviled by conservatives and increasingly by independents. As a known quantity, like Patrick, his poll numbers are not likely to improve. The question is if Bielat is going to be able to make himself known to voters in time.

Conservatives nationally are noticing. There is a great article about Bielat at CFIF:

Never before has Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) faced such a serious challenge from a Republican of any stripe, let alone one who is pro-business and pro-military.  If the tax-and-spend liberal stalwart gets swept away in the GOP tsunami barreling towards Democrat-controlled Washington, D.C. this November, supporters of limited government everywhere will have Sean Bielat to thank.

I oppose the new and increased taxes and fees implemented in August, 2009, to feed bloated state payrolls, perks, pensions and programs. These were passed by irresponsible and reckless INCUMBENT LEGISLATORS, including my opponent; and a GOVERNOR, wholly owned by public employee unions, expanding an unresponsive, burgeoning state government at the expense of ordinary citizens and taxpayers. These craven legislators and governor, unwilling to face down greedy public employee unions, added a net 2000 ‘on-budget’ state employees in 2008-2009, and then cut local aid and outreach programs across Massachusetts by a total of $456 MILLION. That shows us who these INCUMBENTS really answer to and to whom they are beholden.

Hector has another long and extremely informative interview with Charlie Baker. They go over tax cuts and the impact on the economy, especially on small business. Baker talks about how there are two sets of rules – where the regular people have had to make tough choices and accept lower earnings, while the state has continued to give itself budget increases and pay raises.

Baker makes two pledges:

  1. He will not raise taxes
  2. He will never cut local aid

Baker says that in the last election Patrick made three promises that he has not kept:

  1. That he would cut property taxes
  2. put 1000 new cops on the street
  3. make no cuts to local aid

“Those are big promises that haven’t been kept.”
