Christopher Asselin in 2007 heading into Springfield Federal Court for sentencing.
Only in Massachusetts.. ( ok, and maybe in Rhode Island and Louisiana… )
The Springfield Republican is reporting that former State Representative Christopher P. Asselin is running for his old seat in the 9th Hampden District ( Springfield and Chicopee ).
Asselin is fresh from serving 18 months for bribery, theft, and fraud conspiracy charges in 2007. As part of a plea deal, he admitted to accepting up to $120,000 in bribes from Springfield Housing Authority contractors funneled through his father. As part of the plea deal 20 other counts, including extortion and fraud were dropped. As part of the deal, Asselin had to pay restitution, including his Park Extension homevalued at $157,000, and his share of a $3.2 million dollar Chatham vacation home. This is just the limit of what Christopher had available to disgorge to the state. It’s unknown how much he stole from the city. Read the rest of this entry »
