The Patrick campaign is not acting like it knows it is 7 points ahead in the polls. You ask the President fly in and stump for you two weeks before election day unless, like Martha Coakley, you think your campaign is in a little trouble.

Patrick’s introduction is really strong. He is still a great and charismatic speaker. But there is a huge difference in the enthusiasm the crowd shows Obama than they show Patrick. The video tries to tone down this difference by turning down the crowd noise and overlaying some music – but there is no denying it – that crowd was there for Obama only.

Poll Analysis from Jessica Van Sack:

http://www.bostonherald.com/news/politics/view.bg?articleid=1288667

Definitely not a good poll for Baker, but not as negative as many are saying. Can’t say I disagree with Van Sack, fallout from Cahill collapse appears to be helping Patrick.

Question 3, cutting sales tax to 3%: Support: 44%, Oppose: 49%

Question 1, repeal alcohol sales tax: Repeal: 46%, Maintain: 47%

Hector has another long and extremely informative interview with Charlie Baker. They go over tax cuts and the impact on the economy, especially on small business. Baker talks about how there are two sets of rules – where the regular people have had to make tough choices and accept lower earnings, while the state has continued to give itself budget increases and pay raises.

Baker makes two pledges:

  1. He will not raise taxes
  2. He will never cut local aid

Baker says that in the last election Patrick made three promises that he has not kept:

  1. That he would cut property taxes
  2. put 1000 new cops on the street
  3. make no cuts to local aid

“Those are big promises that haven’t been kept.”

Jill Stein

As the dust settled on the first televised debate for this year’s gubernatorial contest in Massachusetts, one clear truth emerged. There was one candidate, and only one, who could legitimately be called “the people’s candidate.”While Scott Brown positioned himself as the people’s candidate in his January special election victory, a late surge of campaign cash and get-out-the-vote efforts from Wall Street executives and lobbyists and other special interests surely put his campaign over the top.

Capitalizing on the Democratic Party machine’s condescending sense of entitlement to the late Senator Kennedy’s seat, Brown asserted that it was “the people’s seat”, and rode his truck right into the leadership vacuum that the Democratic Party has helped to create. But Brown’s slick posturing does not make for genuine leadership. And as economic and ecological meltdown continues, that leadership vacuum continues to grow.
