Deval Patrick and Insider Deals with National Grid

Deval Patrick

This is how deals get done in Massachusetts:

Gov. Deval Patrick’s cash-hungry re-election campaign took in thousands of dollars in contributions from National Grid’s executives, lobbyists and their spouses at a private fund-raiser just days after the administration approved a massive rate increase and brokered a sweetheart deal with the utility.

Patrick’s campaign reported the donations to the state on Dec. 18, but initially failed to include donors’ affiliation with National Grid. It was later amended.

So let’s understand this, Deval Patrick holds a fundraiser where he collects campaign contributions from National Grid executives and their wives. Then they fail to report that these contributors are linked to National Grid.

Of course everyone involved in this kick back scheme says that the two are not related:

State utility commission spokesman Robert Keough denied that there was a link between the fund-raiser and the rate increase.

Stephen Crawford, spokesman for Patrick’s re-election campaign, also said “none of those contributions had any impact on administration policy decisions.”

We’re expected to believe that these executives who had a $44 million dollar rate increase in the works didn’t have that in mind when they opened their checkbooks to the governor.

I wonder how many other palms they had to grease in the legislature as well.
